Scope and who we are

This Privacy Policy applies to the LaTeX Editor public website, account services, online editor, project storage, real-time collaboration, compilation services, formula tools, and AI-assisted features (together, the “Service”). In this policy, “LaTeX Editor,” “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to the operator of the Service.

It does not govern websites, integrations, templates, or services operated independently by third parties. Their own privacy terms apply when you choose to use them.

Information we collect

The information we process depends on how you use the Service. It may include:

• Account information, such as your email address, display name, authentication records, language, preferences, and account status.
• Project and collaboration information, including LaTeX source, uploaded files, images, bibliographies, comments, change history, collaborator details, sharing permissions, and compiled output.
• Compilation information, including engine and TeX Live settings, compile logs, errors, temporary working files, performance data, and resulting PDFs.
• AI feature information, such as selected text, instructions, prompts, formula images, source context, compile errors, model responses, and feedback you submit.
• Technical and usage information, including IP address, device and browser data, timestamps, requested pages, diagnostic logs, security events, cookies, and similar technologies.
• Support communications and any information you choose to include when contacting us.

How and why we use information

We process information to provide the Service, perform our agreement with you, support our legitimate interests in operating a secure and reliable product, comply with law, and obtain consent where required.

• Create and administer accounts, projects, permissions, sessions, and collaboration features.
• Store, synchronize, compile, display, download, and recover the content you ask us to process.
• Provide writing assistance, formula recognition or generation, and compile-error explanations when you invoke an AI feature.
• Secure the Service, prevent abuse, enforce limits, diagnose failures, and maintain availability.
• Respond to support requests, send essential service messages, and improve product performance and usability.
• Meet legal obligations and establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.

AI and compilation data

AI features are activated by your request. To generate a response, we may send the prompt, selected content, formula image, relevant source context, or compile log to a configured model provider. Send only the material needed for the task and review every result before applying it.

Compilation may occur on infrastructure in a different region from the application server. Project files required for a compile can be transferred through secured service-to-service channels, processed in temporary workspaces, and returned as logs and output.

Provider handling, retention, and model-improvement practices can depend on the provider and configuration in use. We do not claim ownership of your project content merely because it is processed by an AI or compilation feature.

How information is shared

We do not sell personal information or use project content for third-party behavioral advertising. We disclose information only as needed to operate the Service or when the law permits or requires it.

• With collaborators and recipients according to the permissions, links, and sharing actions you choose.
• With infrastructure, storage, database, security, email, analytics, compilation, and AI providers acting for us under applicable arrangements.
• To comply with a lawful request, protect users or the Service, investigate abuse, or enforce our terms.
• As part of a financing, reorganization, merger, acquisition, or transfer of the Service, subject to appropriate confidentiality and notice requirements.

International and cross-region processing

LaTeX Editor may serve users and operate infrastructure in more than one country or region. As a result, account, project, compilation, support, or AI data may be processed outside the place where you live.

Where required, we use legally recognized transfer mechanisms and reasonable contractual, technical, and organizational safeguards. Some features may not be available where a lawful transfer cannot be supported.

Retention and deletion

We retain information only for as long as reasonably needed to provide the Service, keep accounts and projects available, maintain security and backups, resolve disputes, and meet legal obligations. Retention can vary by data type, account status, plan, workspace settings, and backup cycle.

Deleting a project or account starts the applicable deletion process. Some copies may remain temporarily in backups, security logs, or records we must retain by law. Content shared with another user may remain in that user’s project or records where they have an independent right to keep it.

Security

We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information, including access controls, service isolation, encrypted transport where supported, monitoring, and backup practices. No online service can guarantee absolute security.

You are responsible for protecting account credentials, limiting sensitive content, reviewing collaborator access, and telling us promptly if you suspect unauthorized use.

Your choices and privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to know or access, correct, delete, restrict or object to processing, receive a portable copy, withdraw consent, limit certain uses, or appeal a decision. You may also have the right to complain to a data protection authority and not be discriminated against for exercising a privacy right.

You can manage certain information and projects in the Service. For other requests, email support@latexeditor.com. We may need to verify your identity and authority before acting, and lawful exceptions may apply.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies and similar storage for essential functions such as authentication, security, language preference, session continuity, and load management. We may also use limited measurement tools to understand performance and improve the public website.

Browser controls can block or remove cookies, but disabling essential cookies may prevent login, project saving, collaboration, or other core functions.

Children

The Service is not directed to children under 16, or a higher minimum age where local law requires it, without authorization from a parent, guardian, school, or other permitted party. If you believe a child submitted personal information without valid authorization, contact us so we can review it.

Your responsibilities

Do not upload personal, confidential, regulated, or third-party information unless you have the necessary authority and the Service is appropriate for that use. When you invite collaborators or process information about another person, you are responsible for providing required notices and permissions.

Changes and contact

We may update this policy to reflect product, legal, or operational changes. We will post the revised version with a new effective date and provide additional notice where required.
